Nearly four years after Hurricane Katrina, the rebuilding of New Orleans canals and levees are about 50% complete. The task of faced by the Army Corps of Engineers is daunting in the scope of work required to help lessen the risk of the damage caused by Katrina. In fact this represents the largest design build project in the Corps history. This effort has been aptly named Task Force Hope, when it is finished it will have taken 6 years and the repair/replacement of 220 miles of levees and floodwalls, new flood gates and pump stations at the mouths of 3 outfall canals, and strengthening of existing walls and levees.

ICE and the Rebuilding Effort

International Construction Company (I.C.E.) is an important part of this rebuilding effort and are proud to be at the forefront of Task Force Hope. As the world’s leading supplier of pile driving equipment for bridges, canals and skyscrapers, they are experts in the needs of contractors with deadlines and often, difficult situations. I.C.E. has been building and customizing deep foundation machinery since 1974 giving them a wealth of experience in knowing what needs are likely to arise from many different conditions and parameters facing contractors. I.C.E0 equipment is being used in the work being done at 2 of the 3 outfall canals.

On the Job

I.C.E. representatives are working with three well respected and award winning local firms;  Boh Construction, Shavers-Whittle Construction, and Hills Brothers. I.C.E. wants to be sure they are there to assist clients and ensure that I.C.E. pile driving equipment is meeting the needs of these demanding jobs. To help them, I.C.E. maintains a department of engineers who actively work with their representatives and clients to ensure that they provide any and all support necessary for each project.

By helping to rebuild New Orleans, I.C.E. believes that they are doing their part to insure that flooding of this magnitude does not strike this city again.
